You'll enjoy a carefully designed tour guided by a dynamic and friendly professional guide. You’ll discover the history of Alcalá along with its legends, anecdotes, and curiosities, all with a touch of humor so you can learn and enjoy the experience.
Yes. Alcalá de Henares is a relatively small city and there are plenty of well-located parking options.
Pico del Obispo free parking: It is well located, a few minutes from the center, and free. It is not paved and has a dirt surface. It’s also not very well maintained, with some bumpy areas.
Bosnia Herzegovina Street free parking: A bit farther from the center, but also free. In 15–20 minutes on foot you can reach Plaza de Cervantes. It’s an open dirt lot, so don’t expect marked parking spaces.
Interparking El Mercado: Located right in the city center (Plaza de Cervantes). Slightly more expensive than others, but very convenient if you don’t want to spend time looking for parking or walking too much. Around €3 per hour and €10 for the whole day.
Interparking San Lucas: Same company as the previous one. Also quite central, on Vía Complutense. Costs around €3 per hour and €12.20 for 24 hours.
The first step to understanding the essence of Alcalá is to take a free tour of the historic center, where expert guides will tell you the history and curiosities of Alcalá, the city where Cervantes was born.
After the walking tour, you can explore the Cervantes Birthplace Museum, where the author of Don Quixote was born, and immerse yourself in everyday life during the Spanish Golden Age.
You can also visit the Corral de Comedias, one of the oldest theaters in Europe that is still open to the public.
The Cisnerian University is another fascinating place worth your time, especially the Paraninfo, where the famous Cervantes Prize is awarded, with its impressive Mudejar coffered ceiling and the tomb of Cardinal Cisneros.
Calle Mayor is the longest arcaded street in Europe. There you can find century-old pastry shops where you can try the famous costradas and caramelized almonds. Perfect for recharging your energy after the tour.
Discover the Archbishop's Palace, the meeting place of Columbus and Queen Isabella the Catholic, with its unique blend of architectural styles from medieval to baroque.
If you enjoy Roman archaeology, you can visit the Regional Archaeological Museum in the old Dominican convent, where you’ll find everything from Roman mosaics to remains of the Roman city of Complutum.
To end your day, you can visit the traditional taverns of the historic center, tasting typical Complutense tapas while enjoying the university atmosphere that characterizes the city. Your tour guide will tell you the best places at good prices.
Explore Alcalá de Henares like never before with our walking tours designed to reveal the best-kept secrets of this university city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Far from conventional routes, you will venture into corners where history, literature, and daily life have intertwined for more than a thousand years.
Our local guides will tell you unexpected details, such as the hidden symbolism in the reliefs of the Colegio Mayor de San Ildefonso: from the enigmatic carved shells guiding pilgrims, to the subtle 'academic messages' stonemasons left as a nod to 16th-century students.
Discover why Calle Mayor —the longest preserved arcaded street in Europe— has columns made of different materials and heights. We’ll explain what this apparent irregularity reveals about medieval guilds and the Jewish and Mudejar merchants who once lived there.
Enter the Cisnerian University and learn about the secret communication system used by beadles to announce public exams: a surprising acoustic method based on the architecture of the Renaissance courtyards, still perceptible if you know where to stand… and we’ll show you.
Visit Cervantes’ former home and uncover real anecdotes about the writer’s daily life: from the unusual function of the interior well, to the reason why his mother had one of the most in-demand —and least known— professions in Castile during the Golden Age.
We will also take you to the Antezana Hospital, operating since 1483, where we will reveal the little-known story of the tunnel that connected the building with Calle Mayor to assist the sick without being seen, an early example of unique medical logistics in Spain.
For mystery lovers, we include an optional walk through corners where strange phenomena were recorded in 18th-century archives: bells ringing without ropes, lamps turning off on their own, and the famous case of the student who swore he saw a faceless monk in the Plaza de los Santos Niños.
Our walking tours through Alcalá de Henares offer a unique, profound, and authentic perspective of one of Spain’s most historic cities. Book now and get ready to discover what very few know about Alcalá.
